Commercial-Grade 2kg Shiitake Mix All-In-One Substrate & Liquid Culture Kit

The Ultimate Commercial-Grade Mushroom Cultivation Starter Pack

For nearly 20 years, Aussie Mushrooms has set the standard for mycology supplies in Australia. If you want to grow Shiitake or other wood-loving, low-nutrient mushrooms, this All-In-One Substrate & Liquid Culture Kit is your ultimate, foolproof shortcut to a massive harvest.

We’ve paired our legendary 2kg layered substrate bag with a premium, high-viability Liquid Culture (LC) Syringe, giving you professional-grade commercial genetics and the perfect environment to grow them in—all in one convenient package.

What’s Inside the Kit?

1. The 2kg “All-In-One” Layered Substrate Bag

Expertly designed to handle both the spawn run and the bulk fruiting phase in a single container.

  • The Starter Layer (Rye Grain): The bottom of the bag is packed with premium, perfectly hydrated rye grain. This acts as the high-octane starter fuel to get your liquid culture running fast and strong.

  • The Bulk Layer (Sawdust): The top 2/3 of the bag is filled with our specially formulated hardwood sawdust mix—the exact low-nutrient environment that Shiitake and similar wood-loving species crave for heavy fruiting.

2. Premium Liquid Culture (LC) Syringe

Skip the unpredictable nature of spores. Our kit includes a pre-loaded, high-mycelium liquid culture syringe. Because it contains living, isolated mycelium, it bypasses the germination phase—meaning lightning-fast colonisation times and a significantly lower risk of contamination.

The Aussie Mushrooms Difference

Contamination is the enemy of every grower. We process these kits exactly the same way we process the supplies for our own commercial farm.

  • True Core Sterilisation: Our substrate bags are 100% sterile. Cooked in commercial autoclaves, we actively monitor the core temperatures of the bags—not just the ambient machine heat—to ensure they hit the exact temperature required for the exact amount of time.

  • Class 100 Cleanroom Sealing & Extraction: Both our substrate bags and liquid cultures are handled inside our state-of-the-art Class 100 mushroom laboratory. To guarantee perfection, we leave open, nutrient-filled agar plates around the room during processing. If the room wasn’t flawlessly clean, those plates would grow contaminants. They never do.

Step-by-Step: From Unboxing to Massive Harvests

Phase 1: The Arrival & 1-Week Rest Test

Shipping can be rough on heavy substrate bags. To guarantee success, follow our Strict Rest Rule:

  1. Unbox your kit as soon as it arrives. Do not inject the bag right away!

  2. Let the bag sit at room temperature for 1 week. This allows you to easily spot any micro-tears or shipping damage before you use your liquid culture.

  3. Our Guarantee: If any issues or contamination show up during this 1-week resting phase, email us photos of the uninoculated bag within 2 weeks of receiving your order, and we will replace it. Once you inject it, you own it!

Phase 2: Inoculation & Storage

  • Prep & Sanitise: Wear freshly cleaned clothes. Wipe down the bag’s built-in self-healing injection port with an isopropyl alcohol swab.

  • Flame Sterilise: Flame-sterilise the needle of your liquid culture syringe until it glows red, then let it cool for a few seconds.

  • Inject: Pierce the port and inject 4 to 10ml of the liquid culture directly into the bottom rye grain layer.

  • Store Correctly (Crucial!): Stand the bag upright (away from the white filter patch) in a dark, cool area below 20°C. Do not lock it in a closed cupboard or box. The filter needs proper airflow to stay dry. If the filter gets wet from lack of airflow or high temperatures (22–24°C+), contaminants will get in.

Phase 3: Break, Shake & Fruit

  • The Break & Shake: Wait patiently for the liquid culture to fully colonise the bottom rye grain layer (it will turn solid white). Once fully colonised, gently massage the bag to break up the grain and thoroughly mix it into the uncolonised sawdust layer above.

  • Fruit Like a Kit: Once the mycelium has grown entirely through the sawdust and consolidated into a solid, white block, your work is done! Colonisation of shiitake takes 4-8 weeks; after the 4-week mark, make sure it is exposed to light. Fruit once the block is 70% black.
